Love Story

Venus said, ‘It’s been a long time since I heard a good tale’
‘The mortal world, nowadays, looks too pale’
‘There’s little endearment and loads of hatred’
‘I think it’s time, for you to paint their world red’

Cupid replied, ‘Their days of detest will soon fall behind’
‘For my arrows shall instill intimacy and leave them spellbind’
‘The mortals shall rediscover true love’s immortal glory.’
He aimed his arrow at a girl and smiled, ‘I’ll pen a perfect love story’

***

A young girl named Juliet was standing by the street
When her eyes lay on Romeo, her heart skipped a beat
Romeo noticed a girl, whose face twinkled bright
He couldn’t take his eyes off her; boy was it love at first sight

Their first date started with smile and ended with a kiss
Lost in each other’s world, they enjoyed eternal bliss
Their lives were devoid of pain and filled with laughter
And thus Romeo and Juliet lived happily ever after

***

‘This was a love story that could have been’, Cupid exclaimed.
‘Holy Mother, I swear my arrow was skillfully aimed’
‘There was an evil force which out-powered the magic of my arrow’
‘It drained out all the happiness and filled their life with sorrow’

‘Romeo and Juliet never saw each other on the street, as they were hypnotized by an evil shield’
‘They were engrossed in its distraction, and missed the joy which only true love could yield’
‘They were meant to have their happily ever after, but ended up forever alone’
‘Romeo and Juliet never smiled at each other, as they were busy smiling at their mobile phone’

Flora

The Root looked up and said, ‘We are going to have a child’
Sparks of happiness flew by, as the Trunk smiled
His heart was filled with joy, but his mind bore thoughts dour
The Trunk prayed in silence, ‘Good heavens, let it be a leaf; not a flower’

For, the leaves give us food and stay with us forever
The flowers on the other hand, have their own endeavor
They are fragile and often fall prey to the game of fate
They end up either in a temple or decorating a woman’s plait

One fine day, a greedy merchant decided to have the big tree cut
He hired a Lumberjack, hoping the logs would fetch him riches in glut
As the Lumberjack sharpened his axe, the Trunk was terrified by the blare
The merchant, on the other hand, was mesmerized by a flower, rarest of the rare

The merchant took the flower and placed it in his little princess’s hand
His princess’s laughter gave him more happiness than he had ever planned
He had decided that the tree shall live so long as it had flowers to supply
Since its flowers gave him something that no money could buy

Later that day, Lumberjack’s wife smiled, ‘We are going to have a baby’
Lumberjack gleamed, ‘This is the happiest day of my life, maybe’
That night, a dark thought corrupted his mind and took his happiness for a swirl
Next day he prayed in silence, ‘Good heavens, let it be a boy; not a girl’
